IT'S ALL CHANGE AGAIN !
The Government Home Insulation Grant Scheme changed on 1/4/17 and in some ways it is an improvement over it's predecessor, but other aspects have got worse.
CAVITY WALL INSULATION
Cavity Wall Insulation is by far the biggest winner under the new scheme - in most cases it is free (including for those who are NOT on benefits), and the quality control aspects have improved massively. To find out the full story "click or tap here".
LOFT INSULATION
Loft Insulation is by far the biggest loser under the new scheme, especially for those with no insulation in their loft. If you have between 50mm ( 2 inches) and 100mm (4 inches) you will probably be a little better off, but to get all the facts and figures "click or tap here".
EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION
There are no real changes to the old scheme for External Wall Insulation. The Government is showing no interest nor intention to tackle the problems of old poorly insulated stone or solid brick homes, of which there 1,000's throughout S.Wales. To find out what is available "click or tap here".
HOME INSULATION ASSESSMENT
Have a Home Insulation Assessment carried out on your property (including an Energy Performance Certificate), by a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor, Green Deal Advisor and registered CASS surveyor. To find out more "click or tap here".
THE GREEN DEAL - AN UPDATE!
The Green Deal was actually a finance mechanism, whereby energy efficiency improvements could be made to your home, through a loan, which was then repaid, with interest, through your electricity bill.
The idea was that Energy companies, DIY companies and the like, would invest money into the "Green Deal Finance Company" - but it didn't happen, and the Coalition Government funded it.
When the Conservatives came to power in May 2015 (without the Lib Dems), they said that they would not invest anymore money into the scheme. So, The Green Deal still existed, but in practice was unable to operate.
The Green Deal Finance Company has now been purchased ( January 2017) by a consortium, and it should be offering Green Deal Loans through the scheme in the near future. We will keep you updated on how this progresses.
